Ice Music on Tour

Welcome to the industry page, where a promotor or venue can find all the key information required host Terje Isungset’s Ice Music.

The magic world of Ice Music truly ‘sings’ in low temperatures of -15ºc and lower (Terje has performed and recorded Ice Music at -42ºc in Canada). For most people though - making the trip to remote locations in winter is out of reach, both practically and financially. For this reason Terje has long refined an accessible method of bringing the ice indoors and allowing more audiences to experience the magic and wonder that Ice Music produces.

Due to the unique nature of performing Ice Music, we have put together this page to help you understand what the Ice Music team can offer. Pictures with some simple info embedded will assist you build a picture of what to expect when Ice Music sings at your venue.

Indoor Concert

  1. Indoor concert / we supply the ice.

This concert can be staged in a regular concert hall with normal temperature. No additional cooling of the building is required. The indoor concert may last up till 90 minutes. Sound and light system needed, along with an optional video projection.

For indoor concerts hosted within Europe, we till supply all the ice from our storage and deliver it in our own trailer with measures 4m x 2.55m x 3m. Power connection is required upon arrival, and has to be connected at all times whilst Ice Music is present at the venue.

All access to the stage is by wheeled trolleys. No stairs whatsoever, as many of the ice instruments are extremely heavy. Large access elevator is fine. 2 strong persons will be required to assist loading the ice on and off the stage. Ample space for required for tuning the instruments.

  2. Indoor concert / venue provides the ice, freezer and trailer.

For this type of concert, typical outside of Europe where flights are required for travel, the ice has to be harvested from lake /river. Optional factory ice, especially for structure (not instruments).

An ice work shop / area is required for fabricating the ice instruments from the harvested blocks. Typically, this process requires 2 local professional ice cutters /carvers and a cold storage to place the ice in for safety. Please note that it is vital that any freezer trailer/ truck storing ice must be stable and below -20ºc.

If no naturally frozen ice is available at the venue location, we will bring good sounding ice from Norway in 2 styrofoam boxes, which will be carry on luggage, measuring 80x40x20cm each.

You can view this video, shot on location in Japan to get an idea of how the instruments are created.
